How It Works
You Pack Removals is Australia’s leading self-pack container removalist. We deliver a shipping container to your door, you pack at your own pace, and we transport it to your new address anywhere in Australia, safely, affordably and without strangers handling your belongings.
We deliver a container to your home and you pack it at your own pace using the moving blankets and straps we provide. Once you’re done, we collect the container and transport it door-to-door to your new address interstate.
With a traditional removalist, a team comes to your home, handles all your belongings and possessions and loads the truck on their schedule. With You Pack, you’re in control. You pack on your timeline, nothing is handled by strangers, and you pay significantly less.
Self-pack container removal is one of the most cost-effective ways to move interstate. With You Pack, most customers save up to 50% compared to traditional removalists and our price beat guarantee means we’ll beat any written quote you receive.
You can get a free quote by filling out the quote form on our website or calling us on 1300 882 112, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5:20pm. Most quotes are turned around quickly so you can plan with confidence.
Request a quote, accept it, and we’ll send you your booking documents to complete and return. Once received, we can have a container delivered to you within 24–48 hours of booking confirmation.
Containers & Sizes
We offer 20ft and 40ft containers. A 20ft container suits most two to four bedroom homes, while a 40ft is better suited to larger homes or moves that include a vehicle. Not sure which size you need? Use our free furniture calculator or give us a call.
A 20ft container has an internal length of 5.90m, width of 2.35m and height of 2.70m, with a capacity of 36–38 cubic metres. It’s suited to most two to four bedroom household moves.
A 40ft container has an internal length of 12.03m, width of 2.35m and height of 2.70m, with a capacity of 68–76 cubic metres. It’s ideal for larger homes or moves that include a vehicle. Note: access to residential areas for a 40ft container needs to be reviewed before booking.
Use our free online furniture calculator to estimate your volume based on what you’re moving. As a general guide, a one to two bedroom home fits comfortably in a 20ft container, while larger homes may need a 40ft. If you’re unsure, call us and we’ll help you work it out.
Yes. If your belongings exceed the capacity of a single container, we can arrange multiple containers. Contact our team to discuss your requirements and we’ll find the right solution.
Packing & Loading
Every container hire includes furniture-grade moving blankets (1.8m x 3m) and 50m rolls of strapping to keep your belongings secure during transit. Boxes and additional packing materials can be purchased locally.
Yes. Once you’ve finished packing, you secure the container with your own padlock. This means only you have access to your belongings throughout the entire move.
Load heavy items on the floor first, then stack lighter items on top. Use the moving blankets to wrap furniture and protect surfaces. Strap items securely using the strapping provided to minimise load shifting during transport. Our DIY loading tips guide on the website has detailed advice.
You have up to 24 days of container hire included in your booking, giving you plenty of time to pack at your own pace without feeling rushed.
Yes. Your car, motorbike or other vehicle can travel inside your container alongside your household belongings, or on its own. Contact our team for details on how to secure your vehicle correctly inside the container.
Delivery, Collection & Transit
A 20ft container is typically delivered via tilt tray truck.
A 40ft container is delivered via side loader.
If your container exceeds 11 tonnes gross, a side loader will be used regardless of size. Our team will review access to your property before confirming delivery.
Yes, someone needs to be present for both delivery and collection. Everything in between, including packing, locking and organising is entirely on your schedule.
Transit times vary by route. As a general guide: Sydney to Melbourne takes 2–3 days, Melbourne to Perth takes 3–5 days, and Brisbane to Perth takes 7–10 days. We’ll give you a clear estimated timeframe when you book. Full transit time estimates are available on our website.
We service all major cities and regional areas across Australia, with 21 depots nationwide including Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Darwin. If you’re not sure whether we cover your route, contact us because the answer is almost certainly yes.

We recommend booking as early as possible, particularly for popular routes and during peak moving periods. Booking early locks in your container availability and protects you from any price changes closer to your move date.
Yes, changes and cancellations are possible with sufficient notice. Cancellations within 24–48 hours of a scheduled delivery may incur a fee if costs have already been committed. Contact our team as early as possible if your plans change.
Insurance & Peace of Mind
Yes. Every shipment is covered by insurance up to $250,000 against total loss, including fire, flood, collision and theft while in transit. We also carry $20 million public liability insurance.
The insurance covers total loss of your container’s contents up to $250,000. It does not cover individual item damage resulting from incorrect loading or normal load shifting during transit, or incidental damage to your driveway or median strip during container placement or collection.
Pack carefully. We suggest you load heavy items first, wrap furniture in the moving blankets provided, and use the strapping to secure everything firmly. Correctly loaded containers very rarely result in damage. Our DIY loading tips guide on the website walks you through best practice.
